1. Overture.
Remember the Cat Stevens song "I can't keep
it in, I can't keep it in,
I got to let it out!"?
Well here
things are bursting at the seams, many things are happening,
simultaneously,
so please take note of what I tell you as I may
forget to remind you of
certain things again.
this week I have included your fun
activity, as promised.
Please make an effort to do it, then let me have your
feedback.
Also pay close attention to "Looking ahead" in
the
second section of this newsletter. There you will see how you
can get my
Soothing Ivories volume 1 album at no cost.
Time waits for no man.
The long weekend is beckoning, so
let's get the show on the
road!
2. "The eighth day".
"And on the eighth day David
..."
This is actually the "new" section of my
newsletter in
which I share new and recent happenings with
you.
I would like to introduce this section with a song containing
the word "new" in the title.
I warned you recently that I was running
out of options
for sensible music with the word "new" in the title. It
seems
you are just as stumped as I am, because I
haven't received any
suggestions from you.
So I solved my problem in a different
way.
I created a new day, the eighth day, and
I've set that
day aside for all my "new" activities.
I mentioned briefly last week about John
and I meeting up and my hopes
of being able
to introduce him and his
music to you.
Did you enjoy it?
Please hit reply on your e-mail
program to let me know.
Last week I mentioned some of the
improvements and
changes I envisage for the newsletter and I heard no
murmurs,
so I assume you are in agreement.
Remember, I'm always happy to consider your
ideas, so please let
me have them.
- Musical term explained:
Decrescendo
Decrescendo, from Italian, meaning "growing
less,", with other words
fading, is a term used to indicate to
performers
that the music, from the point of indication, must be
played
progressively softer.
- Competition
Only three weeks left to
enter!
Seeing as it cost nothing to enter and you may enter as many
times
as you wish, why not spend 10 minutes and get ten or more entries in
to make sure you stand a good chance of winning?
Remember, the
more entries you submit,, the better your
chances.
Hint: there
are 3 questions to answer for the competition of which
the answers to the
first 2 questions can be found on a webpage
directly off my home page
at:
http://www.mr-music.co.za
The answer to the third question is a number you must guess.
For more details, and/or to enter, click on
the link below to go to my
website, and
once there, scroll down to
the heading "Competition":

- New album
Gathering momentum
...
- New compositions
A day in the life of a composer, 5 April
2009:
Get up, get going, things to do, ARGUMENT,
life goes on,
new idea for composition, sit and compose at the piano,
ARGUMENT
resumed, return to piano and try to replay piece, the magic's gone,
argument resumed yet again, upset, return to piano to try and replay
the piece, inspiration (piece) gone, hang
around feeling miserable
rest of the day ...
- Looking ahead
I really have something very special to
offer you, and yes,
it's not going to cost you a cent!
It is
part of my promise to you to bring you no-cost
and/or highly discounted
products and services.
On Thursday, 23 April, you are invited to
attend a
live Teleclass "The Missing Element to Your Spiritual Coaching
Success", hosted
by Sharon Wilson: the
value of the call alone is $39.
As if that is not enough,
registrants for the call will
receive hundreds of dollars worth of gifts,
one of them being my
Soothing Ivories volume 1 album.
Why should you make every effort to
attend?
Apart from all the gifts, my album
included,
there's at least one good reason to attend: the
training and
guidance you will receive to help you be a success
on every level of your
life.
I will be sending out invitation mails to
you the week of 20 April
with all the details.
On Sharon's last call in March there were
over 1800 attendees.
So, be on the lookout for my invitation
mail, and
be sure to take action on it right away.
- Animal Zone - Easter story
A new "no-cost" story, "Cat eggs", will be
up
on Animal Zone by Easter Monday for you.
Please use the link at the bottom of the
story page itself
to pass your comments directly to Ellen.
"The fugitive" and "Show 'em" had to make
way for the Easter story,
but they will still make their appearance in the
not too distant
future. Just watch this space.
- Music for functions
You know by now that you can contact me to
provide any kind of
music, for any type of function.
Near or
far, for 2 or 200, at dusk or dawn:
I will come and add my magic touch to
turn your event into
something memorable.
Not to mention the
publicity you'll get via my site and newsletter!
You know the drill by now: just e-mail me
with details,
I will respond with a written quote, then we'll take things
from there.
So just e-mail me at:

3. Intermission.
Let's bake
By David Fritz
Interesting how our lives seem to be a
succession of cycles.
We start something, like it, do it regularly for a
while, then,
somehow, the fire goes out, the coals die, and one day we
realize the
cycle has ended.
I seem to
recall that quite a bit of baking was done in our home when I
was a child,
but during my adult years very little seem to have been
done: that was
until about December
last year.
Since then the smell of home baked this and that has
been filling
our home regularly again.
Like music and wine,
good food is at its best when shared.
So today, let's share something very
special: let's bake a cake
together, then enjoy the fruits of our labour
with a cupper.
It is a very unusual cake. It is called the
Herman friendship cake,
and if you follow the recipe, you and your friends
will be eating cake
from your first batch of batter, for the rest of your
lives.
Good food, like good music and good wine, takes time
to
prepare, so don't be in a hurry: savour every action, every moment
you spend in preparing it.
"It is not how much you do, but how much
love you put in the doing."
The recipe actually consists of two
parts.
First you must prepare the "starter". When the starter is ready
you use some of it to bake your friendship cake,
you keep some to start
off your next batch of "starter" and
the rest you give away to friends so
that they can bake
a friendship cake too and have "starter" to give away in
turn.
Starter For The Herman Friendship
Cake
Ingredients
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
Method
Day 01: Stir the above
ingredients into a non-metallic container,
cover with a tight fitting
lid, and store at room temperature.
Day 02: Stir lovingly and cover again.
Day 03: Stir lovingly and cover again.
Day 04: Stir lovingly and cover
again.
Day 05: Stir lovingly and cover again.
Day 06: Feed Herman by
stirring in half a cup sugar,
1 cup flour, 1 cup milk, cover
again.
Day 07: Stir lovingly and cover again.
Day 08: Stir lovingly and
cover again.
Day 09: Stir lovingly and cover again.
Day 10: Stir
lovingly and cover again.
Day 11: Feed Herman again: by stirring in half a
cup sugar,
1 cup flour, 1 cup milk, cover again.
Day
12: Stir lovingly and cover again.
Day 13: Stir lovingly and cover
again.
Day 14: Stir lovingly and cover again.
Day 15: Stir lovingly and
cover again.
Day 16: Use 2 cups of the starter to bake the cake, keep 1 cup
to start
a new batch of starter and give the rest, 1 cup each, to
friends.
Baking the cake
Ingredients
2 cups
Herman starter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
two thirds of a cup oil
2 cups
flour
half a teaspoon baking soda
half a teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons
baking powder
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 and a half teaspoons cinnamon
1 cup
raisins or Chopped fruit (mix
half to 1 cup chopped nuts
Method
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F.
Grease a 9x13 pan.
Sprinkle a bit of flour all over the greased
pan.
Mix all cake ingredients well.
Pour into the prepared 9x13
pan.
Bake 50 to 60 minutes at 350 degrees F.
Icing for cake
(optional)
Ingredients
Cream Cheese Icing Recipe
1 container (250 ml)
cream cheese
half a cup butter or baking margarine
1 and a half teaspoons
vanilla
1 and a half cups icing sugar
Method
Cream all ingredients together,
adding icing sugar 'till mixture is
smooth, spreading consistency.
Spread
evenly over cake.
Restart instructions
Add 1 cup of sugar,
1 cup of flour and 1 cup of milk to your
cup of starter you kept for
yourself and start the process from
day 1 again.
As you can see, this is a fun recipe to
make.
It doesn't take much time, but implementing this process ensures
that you will have something special to dish out to some friends every
16 days and that you will have a good reason to bake a cake every 16
days!
Now who does not enjoy home baked
cakes?
It's fun: involve your husband, your wife,
your children, even
your grand children!
And always remember:
"It is not how much
you do, but how much love you put in the doing."
4. "The memory of
trees".
Today I have a beautiful number by Enya to
introduce this section of my
newsletter, in which I remind you of things to
diarize and do.
The song is called "The memory of
trees".
Thank you to all of you who are
endeavouring to implement
some and/or all of the things suggested. May you
have lots of fun doing
them.
Make this another
memorable week by diarizing and
doing as suggested below:
-
DATES TO DIARIZE
- 10 May - the start of the Sappi Sunday
picnic concerts, held every
second Sunday, from 10 May through the
winter, at the
Walter Sisulu botanical gardens in Roodepoort, 13h00
to 15h00
- 26-28 June - Natural & Organic, Coca Cola dome
- THINGS TO DO THIS WEEK
-
Drink some veggie juice
- Visit your local zoo
- Give a pack of hot cross
buns to someone (not family or a colleague)
- Clean out the garage - throw
old/unused/broken items away
- Start baking your friendship cake
5. Encore
Around the corner I have a friend,
In
this great city that has no end,
Yet the days go by and weeks rush on,
And
before I know it, a year is gone.
And I never see my old friends face,
For
life is a swift and terrible race,
He knows I like him just as well,
As in
the days when I rang his bell.
And he rang mine but we were younger
then,
And now we are busy, tired men.
Tired of playing a foolish
game,
Tired of trying to make a name.
"Tomorrow" I say! "I will call on
Jim
Just to show that I'm thinking of him."
But tomorrow comes and
tomorrow goes,
And distance between us grows and grows.
Around the corner, yet miles
away,
"Here's a telegram sir," "Jim died today."
And that's what we get
and deserve in the end.
Around the corner, a vanished friend.
Remember to always say what you mean
If
you love someone, tell them.
Don't be afraid to express yourself.
Reach
out and tell someone what they mean to you.
Because when you decide that it
is the right time it might
be too late.
Seize the day. Never have regrets.
And
most importantly, stay close to your friends and
family, for they have
helped make you the person that you are today.
...
I believe in the power of love - that power
that can transcend any
obstacle, that power that makes the impossible
possible, that power
without which nothing could exist.
I'll bid you a lovely Easter weekend then
with the words
from the Jennifer Rush hit, "The power of love":
"The whispers in the morning of lovers
sleeping tight;
are rolling by like thunder now as I look in your eyes;
I
hold on to your body and feel each move you make;
your voice is warm and
tender;
a love that I could not forsake.
'Cause I am your lady and you are my
man;
whenever you reach for me, I'll do all that I can.
Lost is how I'm feeling, lying in your
arms;
when the world out side's too much to take;
that all ends when I'm
with you;
even though there may be times;
it seems I'm far away;
but
never wonder where I am;
'cause I am always by your side.
'Cause I am your lady and you are my
man;
whenever you reach for me, I'll do all that I can;
we're heading for
something;
somewhere I've never been, sometimes I am frightened;
but I'm
ready to learn 'bout the power of love.
The sound of your heart beating made it
clear suddenly;
the feeling that I can't go on is light-years
away.
'Cause I am your lady and you are my
man;
whenever you reach for me, I know that I'll do all that I can;
we're
heading for something;
somewhere I've never been, sometimes I am
frightened;
but I'm ready to learn 'bout the power of love.
We're heading for something;
somewhere
I've never been, sometimes I am frightened;
but I'm ready to learn 'bout the
power of love.
Ooh, the power of love;
the power of
love;
sometimes I am frightened;
but I'm ready to learn 'bout the power of
love."
