1. Overture.
"Vanity, all vanity", Solomon
said.
Just this past week I was reminded of this
truth again.
Ever noticed how the way you feel and the
way things really are,
sometimes seem out of sync
Then you feel kind-a horrible: not good
enough to jump for joy,
neither bad enough to die!
The seasons
too, are betwixt and between, not autumn, so fortunately we had good rains; not
summer, so fortunately we didn't have sweltering heat.
For me, my
life too, reflected this neither-here-nor-there state this past
week.
I think it started going wrong for me with
pushing till midnight last Thursday to get my newsletter out on my Thursday
deadline.
The newsletter went out on Thursday, but Friday I was a write-off.
I worked on this and that, but nothing seemed to come from my efforts.
Currently many things are in that same state for me: I am starting
the recording of a new album, but I haven't really gotten into the
rhythm of
recording yet, I'm doing this and that, tinkering here and there, trying this
and that, but it feels as if I'm going nowhere!
So, if you have a
bit of spare energy, enthusiasm, some spare time,
anything left over or
unused? Please pass it along!
Having said all this, quietly, a milestone
or two has come up:
officially this is the 10th issue of my
newsletter,
and I also finished my 25th own composition this
week!
So, lift your mugs in salute
...
2. "New world".
My options for songs with "new" are
limited, so excuse
me for introducing you to something foreign now and
then.
I have started a couple of new things this week.
Read all
about them below.
- Musical term explained:
Vivace
Vivace, pronounced vee-vuchie, is commonly
used to indicate the tempo for a piece. It means lively.
- Competition
Eventually I got around to implementing
this idea too.
My first official competition starts today,
19 March 2009 on
my website and it closes on Wednesday 29 April 2009.
The
winners will be announced in my newsletter of 30 April 2009
and will be
published on my website too!
This being a music newsletter, and me being
a musician,
what else did you expect, but music prizes!
The
value of the first prize is R585, that of second prize R440 and that of the
third prize R125, bringing
the total value of prizes to R1150!
Entry is free and you can enter as many
times as you like.
Feel free to tell others about the competition
also.
There are 3 questions to answer for the
competition of which
the answers to two of the three questions can be found
somewhere on
http://www.mr-music.co.za or
http://www.singingivories.comThe answer to the third question is a number you must
guess.

- New album
Recording has
started ...
- New compositions
Because I
said it was a betwixt-and-between week you thought I did
nothing!
Siss on you.
Apart from getting the competition ready
and working on the
new story for Animal Zone, I composed 4 new pieces this
week.
- Remember (Onthou jy), special song for
Mothers day
- Grossen hertz, a "classical" piece for strings,
- Sweet
breeze and
- Serenade.
The tally for my own compositions now
stand at 25.
Think I'll make 40 by the end of the year?
- Animal Zone - Show -'em
A new "mahala" story will be up tomorrow,
Friday 20 March at 20h00,
on Animal zone.
Please use the link at the bottom of the
story page itself
to pass your comments directly to Ellen.
- Music for functions
Why not turn your next celebration into an
unforgettable occasion with me providing the music?
Near or far,
for 2 or 200, at dusk or dawn:
I will come and add my magic touch to turn
your event into
something memorable.
Not to mention the
publicity you'll get via my site and newsletter!
You know the drill by now: just e-mail me
with details,
I will respond with a written quote, then we'll take things
from there.
So just e-mail me at:

3. Intermission.
Chocolate sings
Author
unknown
One day I had a date for lunch with friends. Mae, a little
old
'blue hair' about 80 years old, came along with them - all in all, a
pleasant bunch. When the menus were presented, we ordered salads,
sandwiches, and soups, except for Mae who said, 'Ice Cream, please.
Two
scoops, chocolate.'
I wasn't sure my ears heard right, and the
others were aghast.
'Along with heated apple pie,' Mae added,
completely unabashed.
We tried to act quite nonchalant, as if
people did this all the time.
But when our orders were brought out, I didn't
enjoy mine.
I couldn't take my eyes off Mae as her pie
a-la-mode went down.
The other ladies showed dismay. They ate their lunches
silently and
frowned.
The next time I went out to eat, I called
and invited Mae.
I lunched on white meat tuna. She ordered a
parfait.
I smiled. She asked if she amused
me.
I answered, 'Yes, you do, but also you
confuse me.
How come you order rich desserts, while I feel I must be
sensible?
She laughed and said, with wanton mirth,
'I'm tasting all that is
Possible.
I try to eat the food I need,
and do the things I should.
But life's so short, my friend, I hate missing
out on something good.
This year I realized how old I was. (She
grinned) I haven't been this
old before.'
'So, before I die, I've got to try those
things that for years I had
ignored.
I haven't smelled all the flowers yet.
There are too many books I haven't read.
There's more fudge sundaes to
wolf down
and kites to be flown overhead.
There are many malls
I haven't shopped.
I've not laughed at all the jokes.
I've missed a lot
of Broadway hits
and potato chips and cokes.
I want to wade again in water
and feel
ocean spray on my face.
I want to sit in a country church once more
and
thank God for His grace.
I want peanut butter every day spread on my
morning toast.
I want un-timed long distance calls to the folks I love the
most.
I haven't cried at all the movies yet,
or walked in the
morning rain.
I need to feel wind in my hair.
I want to fall in love
again.
So, if I choose to have dessert, instead of
having dinner,
then should I die before night fall, I'd say I died a
winner,
because I missed out on nothing.
I filled my heart's desire.
I
had that final chocolate mousse
before my life expired.'
With that, I called the waitress over...
'I've changed my mind, '
I said. 'I want what she is having; only add some
more whipped cream!'
Live well, love much & laugh often - Be
happy.
Be mindful that happiness isn't based on
possessions, power, or
prestige, but on relationships with people we love and
respect.
Remember that while money talks, CHOCOLATE
SINGS!
4. "Always something there to
remind me".
Today I found an old song with "remind" in
the title to
lead in this section of my newsletter.
"Always something there to remind me", sung
by Sandy Shaw.
How are you doing on this section of the
newsletter?
Please let me know.
Make this another memorable week
by diarizing and
doing as suggested below:

DIARIZE

A dose of inspiration
"Philosophical
Approach To Tail Chasing"
A big dog saw a little dog chasing its tail
and asked,
"Why are you chasing your tail so?"
Said the puppy, "I have mastered
philosophy; I have solved the
problems of the universe which no dog before
me has rightly solved;
I have learned that the best thing for a dog is
happiness, and that
happiness is my tail.
Therefore I am chasing it; and when I catch
it, I shall have
happiness."
Said the old dog, "My son, I,
too, have paid attention to the
problems of the universe in my weak way, and
I have formed some
opinions.
I, too, have judged that happiness is a
fine thing for a
dog, and that happiness is in my tail.
But I have noticed that when I chase after
it, it keeps running away
from me, but when I go about my business, it comes
after me."
- C. L. James
"You're my peace of mind;
in this crazy
world;
you're everything I tried to find;
your love is a pearl;
you're
my Mona Lisa;
you're my rainbow skies;
and my only prayer is that you
realize;
you'll always be beautiful in my eyes.
The world will turn;
and the seasons
will change;
and all the lessons we will learn;
will be beautiful and
strange;
we'll have our fill of tears;
our share of sighs;
my only
prayer is that you realize;
you'll always be beautiful in my
eyes.
Chorus
You will always be beautiful in
my eyes;
and the passing years will show;
that you will always
grow;
ever more beautiful in my eyes.
when there are lines upon my face;
from
a lifetime of smiles;
when the time comes to embrace;
for one long last
while;
we can laugh about;
how time really flies;
we won't say
goodbye;
cause true love never dies;
you'll always be beautiful in my
eyes.
chorus
You will always be beautiful in my eyes;
and the
passing years will show;
that you will always grow;
ever more beautiful in
my eyes;
the passing years will show;
that you will always grow;
ever
more beautiful in my eyes."
Love and the best music
